Welcome Local Authors!
Thank you for your interest in Town House Books. We are pleased to feature local authors in our bookstore! Due to the the many requests we receive for book placement consideration, we can only consider authors who are truly local to our community. You must reside in Kane or DuPage County to be featured in our local author section.
To be eligible for consideration your book must:
- Be professionally bound, with clear and legible title and author information on the cover and the spine. Books with stapled or spiral binding will not be considered.
- Have an ISBN and barcode. Please note that we do not accept books published by Amazon or one of their subsidiaries.
- Clearly display the retail price (printed on the book or on a sticker). The book must be comparably priced to other books of the same size.
- Have a good-quality cover image. Images and text cannot be pixelated and all text must be legible.
- Be human generated. If your book contains AI-generated content (written or illustrated), please do not submit it for consideration.
- Meet our sales terms. We feature local author books on consignment, with 60% of the retail price going to the author and 40% going to Town House Books.
Local author program terms:
- If your book is approved, we may select to display it in our local author section (prominently located on our porch) for at least 60 days. We regularly rotate the books facing out in this section to give each author time to be featured. Due to the number of local authors who regularly contact us, and our limited shelf space, we cannot guarantee when your book will be selected.
- You will be notified by email when your book is selected (please do not call us to ask when that will be). You will be responsible to bring in up to 5 copies of your book for consignment and an invoice for record keeping. Be sure to let your friends and family know the month(s) your book is being displayed!
- When your book rotates off our shelves, you will be notified to pick up any unsold books within one week. We cannot ship books back to you. If we run out of your book during your display term, we will contact you for additional copies.
- If there are sales of your book, we will provide a summary showing how much you are owed for the sales. You will need to print that summary, sign and return it to the store to pick up your check and any unsold books. We cannot mail checks or ship books back to you.
- Finally, please do not drop off or mail copies of your book to Town House Books for inventory consideration. Due to the heavy volume of book placement requests we receive, we are not able to accommodate meetings in person or over the phone. Our inventory team only accepts requests via email as described below. Books mailed to or dropped off at our store become the property of Town House Books and will not be returned.
If your publication meets these criteria and you agree with our terms, please proceed by submitting an email to amy@townhousebooks.com providing the information listed below. Please use BOOK PLACEMENT REQUEST as the subject line. We will not be able to process your request if any of the required information below is not provided.
Thank you! We know your book is important to you and we will respond as quickly as possible.
