Independent Bookstore Day

An entrancing haven of the innocent accumulation of years. The whole place glowed with a universal patina.

I wish I could say that this beautiful quote by Patrick Leigh Fermor was written about Town House Books rather than the Red Ox Inn in Heidelberg, Germany, but when I read that passage from A Time of Gifts I felt that he was echoing the sentiment that so many have expressed when visiting our bookstore.

Saturday April 24th is Independent Bookstore Day this year.  We want to thank all of you for the incredible continued support during Covid.  We feel so fortunate to have been able to continue to provide great books and service through our St. Charles location and our on-line store.  What a testament to the loyalty of our ongoing local customers as well as our new online customers from all over the country.

At the heart of all we do is the love of books and the desire to create an inviting space in which people can discover and share literature of all kinds. From the latest novel to an enduring classic, from the perfect gift for the new baby’s library to words that provide solace to a hurting friend. We believe in the power of language to keep our world spinning.

Stop by and see us at our historic St. Charles location or check out some of our latest online lists:

Thank you for allowing us to be your independent bookstore for over 46 years! Happy Reading!
